ABOUT THE CLASSIC 5K
The inaugural Classic 5K presented by Train & Burn Fitness Studio, will be held on Saturday October 24, 2026, 7am (9am-5K Start) at History Park 1700 4th Ave North, Birmingham, AL 35203. History Park is located in the Historic 4th Avenue Business District of Birmingham's Civil Rights District. The race provides a healthy kick off to activities leading up to the annual football game between Alabama State University & Alabama A&M University.
The morning features a pre-race warm-up, live music, professional timing, great sponsor perks, and an official race shirt for every runner. Beyond the pavement, explore the Classic Community Corner (CCC) featuring local organizations dedicated to health, education, voter registration, and financial literacy. Best of all, a portion of the proceeds will fund scholarships for future Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University students. Hosted by The Leftover Energy Foundation Inc., this event is the perfect way to celebrate community, health and rivalry weekend!
The flat, fast, out and back 5K route takes you through the Civil Rights District, 4th Ave Business District, Fountain Heights Community and the Historic Smithfield Community. The 5K race is open to all ages to walk, run and enjoy.
The Classic 5K advocates health, wellness, education, leadership and community engagement thorough an annual event that celebrates Birmingham’s rich history while inspiring future generations.

What is the registration cost?
5K Registration:
$35.00 until 09/30/2026

Is the race timed?
Yes, the 5K run is chip timed by a professional timing company.
Are the courses USATF Certified?
YES!! The CLASSIC 5K race course is USATF Certified.
I want to bring my children and their friends. Do children have to register too?
Children can register for the 5K. All children must be attended by their responsible adult.
Where do I park?
There is plenty of street parking around the area. In addition, there will be some first come, first serve parking lots (LOOK FOR THE SIGNS).
What if the weather does not look good?
The race is a rain/shine/cold/hot event. We will alert participants if lightning or severe weather conditions occur.
Where do I get my race packet? Is there a shirt?
Yes, registered participants will receive the popular The CLASSIC 5K race shirt!! To guarantee your shirt size, please register by 10/09/2026.
Packet Pick up date Friday, October 23, 11AM-5PM. Location: TBA

Is there race day registration?
Yes, race day registration begins at 7:00 am and closes at 8:40 am. Online registration will end on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 8:40 am!
I don’t or can’t walk/run in the race but I want to support it or a runner?
You can still provide your support for a runner or a team by going to the “SPONSOR A RUNNER/WALKER” section on the www.mlkday5kbham.com website. From there you can sponsor runners and choose an APPROVED Beneficiary or enter the name of a organization/participant. You can also make a DONATION via the DONATION LINK here or via the registration page.
I don’t see the “TEAM” I’m with listed on the Entry List page. Why? What to do?
If you didn’t select your “TEAM” name (beneficiary) on the registration, please let us know, so we make sure your funds go to the appropriate organization. Please email info@leftoverenergy.com and tell us your name and organization/team and we will update it.
Is the event family friendly?
Yes, this event is a family friendly event and open to all ages. We will have family friendly music, sponsors booths and activities for all ages.

Who/What does the race benefit?
